WHAT DO YOUR SYMPTOMS MEAN?
We have powerful drugs of all sorts to suppress almost every symptom. A best kept secret in medicine is that whenever a drug works, there is usually an environmental trigger and a biochemical defect. One of the important goals in Environmental Medicine is to identify such environmental triggers and biochemical defects and correct them. This provides a more logical substitute for a lifetime of medication. Treating with drugs ignores the very biochemical defect, and that is how it invariably goes to cause more symptoms, and the sick get sicker. Therefore, long term use of all sorts of drugs, antihistamines, bronchial dilators, antihypertensive medicines, anti-inflammatory, or anti-arthritic drugs should be discouraged. However, not taking drugs and suffering through does not solve the problem either. You have to find the cause and treat it. It is only then that you can feel better and get real relief from your problems.
OUR HEALTH OBJECTIVES FOR YOU
Our health objectives for you are very simple. Environmental medicine requires that the patient be educated and asked to participate as a responsible party in the total health care matters. As Dr. Sherry Rogers, M.D., an eminent environmental allergist puts it, "It has long been recognized that such things as a responsible diet selection and lifestyle choices have a great bearing on health. For after all, health is not a birthright, it is the right way of living." Once you understand what the environmental triggers and biochemical defects are, and how your lifestyle is contributing to your overall ill health, you will be able to implement changes more effectively. It will bring relief from your distressing symptoms.
OUR APPROACH TO YOUR PROBLEMS
Our first question is what are the real underlying causes like environmental triggers and biochemical defects that are causing your problems and how can these be corrected. A detailed history and physical examination will enable the physician to narrow down the appropriate causes. In the following sections I will acquaint you with the most common causes of chronic illness and the usual sequence of procedures regarding the care of a new patient in our practice.
1. At your initial appointment doctor will take a detailed medical history and perform a physical examination to determine the nature of your problem. After this, doctor will explain the treatment plan.
2. The causes of chronic illness are many. The testing sequence will depend upon the nature of your problem. Some of the most common causes of chronic illness are listed below. These are some of the conditions that we will be considering as possible causes. After conclusion of the examination with the doctor, you will be scheduled for testing. Following that, you will be scheduled to meet with the doctor to discuss the results and start a definite treatment program. Subsequent testing and treatment will depend upon your response to the initial treatment.
